Berlin Move-Out Cleaning: A Handover Checklist

6 min read

Between boxes, key handovers and deadlines, end-of-tenancy cleaning can quickly become stressful. A clear plan helps use the available time well and ensures that every agreed area is accessible.

Prepare before cleaning starts

Schedule the clean after the apartment is emptied and before the handover whenever possible. Empty cupboards, clear floors and working utilities make the job easier. Mention in advance if water or electricity will be disconnected or rooms will still be blocked.

  • Remove all personal belongings
  • Empty cupboards and drawers
  • Defrost and switch off the fridge
  • Clear access to windows and radiators
  • Confirm keys, doorbell name and handover time

Match priorities to the handover requirements

Check your lease, handover report and any arrangements with the property manager. Kitchens, bathrooms, floors, doors and visible build-up are common priorities. Windows, ovens and post-renovation work should be agreed explicitly because they can require additional time.

Leave time for a final walkthrough

Inspect the agreed areas in good light after the clean. Cleaning can improve and maintain surfaces, but it cannot repair damage, heavy discolouration or building defects. A realistic task list helps avoid last-minute pressure before the keys are returned.
